It has long been shown that several organic solvents such as benzene are potent carcinogens. Because of long latency and no radical treatment of cancers, evaluation of the biological effects of potent carcinogens in a population at risk might provide predictive information. Organic solvents are the most widely used chemicals in industry. In the present study, chromosomal damages induced in lymphocytes of workers occupationally exposed to toluene, thinner and benzene are evaluated by standard metaphase analysis method; chromosome and chromatid type aberrations were scored for each subject. Results obtained show that workers exposed to chemicals show a high frequency of chromosomal aberrations compared to controls (p

The extensive lowland of Khuzistan in SW. Iran has been studied floristically. A brief information on the climate, habitat and lithology of area is presented. The hot desert of lowland along the persian Gulf area, with complex floristic situation is indicated. Their phytogeographical and taxonomic relationships are discussed in detail and attempts are made to relate the distributional patterns to certain ecological factors. 25.5% of the species are Irano - Turanian & Saharo - sindian, 22% saharo - sindian, 15.1% Irano - Turanian, 1.5% Mediterranean, 1.9% endemics, mostly derivatives of Saharo - sindian species, 6.4% cosmopolitan and 27.7% bi - or pluriregional. The highest number of endemics are found in the northern parts of the oil field areas, where they have a wetter climate than most of coastal plains.

Variations in the number of dinoflagellate cysts species recovered from the Rhodano-Swabian sedimentary basin in northern Switzerland have been correlated with sequence and sedimentary cycles established for this basin. The variation in dinoflagellate cyst abundance corroborates the sequence boundaries erected by Gygi et al. (1988) using other parameters such as lithology and macrofossil content of the sediments. Highstands of sea level are marked by a sharp increase in species diversity (sometimes up to 50). In contrast, lowstands are indicated by a sharp decline in the abundance of species: in a case only 3 species.

Following a recent work of Chademan-Mirzapour (1995&1999). we generalize the classical theorems of Jensen, Bernstein-Doetsch, Ostrowski, Blumberg-Sierpinski and Mehdi on approximately midconvex functions in real vactor spaces to approximately midconvex functions on topological groups. We define also ? -Wright-convexity in topological groups and prove a theorem on it.

Discrimination of time series data can be carried out either in the frequency domain or in the time domain. Applications have been found useful in certain areas such as seismology and medicine. To date most discriminative work has been carried out for linear and stationary time series models. This paper extends the theory by considering the discrimination of state space models which can then also include linear models. A CUSUM approach is adopted to discriminate between two models, although standard CUSUM methods can not be used because of the lack of independence. The CUSUM method allows the discrimination to be viewed as a sequential method where a decision needs to be made as soon as reasonably possible.
